My first month at Verde as an SEO Executive

Hey, I’m Sel. I’m an SEO executive at Verde Digital!

In July 2024 I graduated from the University of Westminster in Digital Marketing PR & Advertising. In my free time I was working part-time at my family run cafe between then and October.

Late October, as I was scrolling through my emails, I checked my junk folder and saw a connection request from Joe. I saw Verde was a digital marketing agency, and with the role being an entry-level marketing role, more aligned to what I wanted to learn and be taught, it all felt so right and I think that it was the greatest opportunity I have been offered…

What I have learnt in a month:

I cannot believe it’s been a whole month already. It honestly has flown by. Although it’s only my 4th week into SEO, I never would’ve ever thought I could pick up so much in 4 weeks time.

If I’m really honest, I didn’t even really know what SEO meant. Of course I had an idea of what SEO was but I didn’t have a clue the level of layers to it. My favourite skill I have learnt is definitely keyword research. Since my very first day I have been keyword researching and utilising that data.

I think it’s so interesting to research and see how brand searches change and how that changes throughout the years, how different markets/countries search, and comparing that data. I also really enjoy how we work with so many different clients in fashion and sports. Maybe because just like Verde, fashion and sport are two industries I find deeply interesting too.

Some key SEO skills I have learnt in a month: Keyword research, SEMrush, content/blog writing, ScreamingFrog site crawling and utilising Shopify.

So, what does a SEO executive do?

Optimising websites for search engines is the simplest way to explain my role as an SEO executive. Keyword research plays a huge role as it helps understand what people are searching for, so I can utilise that data to help increase traffic to websites. On top of this you have to keep up with Google algorithm updates and client changes, ensuring

What are your responsibilities?

  • Researching and finding relevant keywords with high search volumes for content.
  • Running technical website audits such as solving crawl errors, and other checks.
  • Catching up with trends, algorithm updates, and strategies used in SEO, which are prone to change.
  • Monitoring the results of clients’ SEO campaigns and monthly reporting.
  • Using SEO digital tools (Google Search Console, Screaming Frog and SEMRush.)

A Typical Day in the Life of an SEO Executive

As an SEO executive, two days are not the same. And that’s what I love most about it. I spend time on numerous projects for exciting brands and it all depends on what needs to be done within the moment.

For example, when a new product page is being planned, I’ll spend the majority of my time doing keyword research.

Favourite part of my role:

  • There is always something new to learn!
  • Working with quality large brands is an amazing opportunity.
  • Making a difference and seeing successful results.
